The approval came after the board rejected two substitute salary resolutions.
The Buffalo County Board of Commissioners awarded Kearney contractor RVM Construction the project at $185,200. Also bidding was Kearney contractor Duncan Theis at $186,400.
The Elm–Turkey Creek project would protect Kearney’s growing hospitality district, including the SportsPlex.
The Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District is buying $1.7 million worth of heavy equipment and pickups. The CNPPID board approved the purchases Monday.
The project will reconstruct the roadway on Mt. Pleasant Street between Rapids Drive and Romayne Avenue.
“We’re going to have our work cut out for us,” said Councilman Alex Straatmann, referring to complexities in the ballot language voters will encounter as they cast ballots May 12.
The project cost is estimated at about $750,000.
With the passing of the Register of deeds, a vacancy was created at the Buffalo County Courthouse, and it has been filled by the deputy register of deeds, Jen Schleusener.
