Allegations of inappropriate sexual contact involving Kearney YRTC staff members and teens in custody at the center prompted the Douglas County Public Defender’s Office in October to start reviewing all cases involving its clients housed at the state-run facility.
The Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center in Kearney is one of three such centers that the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services operates in the state. The centers are a last resort for youth in the state’s juvenile justice system.
