Video: Missing WWII solider's remains return home

Mary Bushman, daughter of Melvin Meyer's wife, Vivian, speaks on what it means to the Meyer family to have their solider return home and buried after so many years. Meyer B. Meyer is a World War II veteran from Overland whose remains were identified from a plane crash site in Germany almost 79 years after the fact. Dental records, DNA, and other personal belongings helped identify his remains. Melvin Meyer was born in 1919, in Overland, Missouri. He was a bombardier on a B-17 flight that was shot down in 1944. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency announced they accounted for US Army Air Forces 1st Lt. Melvin B. Meyer on Sept. 9, 2022. During World War II, Meyer was assigned to the 569th Bombardment Squadron, 390th Bombardment Group, 13th Bombardment Wing, and 8th US Army Air Force. He was a part of the bombing mission over Leipzig, Germany, on May 29, 1944. He will be buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery on Friday.
