The Jeffs is an odd choice, but it's based on the fact that Fairbury is in Jefferson County. The reference to a long gone, mostly forgotten comic strip called "Mutt and Jeff" was adopted when having a human mascot came into vogue. Fairbury is keeping the character alive as their mascot and he's certainly one of our favorites.
