NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has backed Bad Bunny just days before his Super Bowl halftime performance, after the artist denounced ICE at the Grammys. During his annual state of the league address, Goodell praised Bad Bunny and reassured fans that the halftime show will be used to unify viewers. "Bad Bunny is, and I think that was demonstrated last night, one of the great artists in the world, and that's one of the reasons we chose him," Goodell said. He added that Bad Bunny understands “that this platform is used to unite people and to be able to bring people together.” The Puerto Rican star made Grammy history at the 2026 ceremony, becoming the first artist to win Album of the Year for a non-English-language album. During his acceptance speech, he called for "ICE Out," adding that “we’re not animals, we’re not aliens, we are humans, and we are Americans.” Many Republican figureheads have criticized the decision to have Bad Bunny headline the halftime show. President Donald Trump previously called his selection "absolutely ridiculous."
