Grand Island’s newest firefighter/EMT recruits completed a ceremonial walk from Fire Station No. 1 to City Hall on June 19, where they were met with a cheering crowd of family members and city staff.
Tyler Hipke, Saw Htoo, Amy Tonniges, Carson Watts, Tyler Rines and Samuel Caudillo made the approximately 25-minute trek in full firefighter gear. The ceremonial ruck signifies the end of an eight-week training period in which the recruits prepare for their new careers as firefighters and medical technicians.
