The Lincoln Journal Star wants to help.
We’re once again providing free digital subscriptions for Lincoln-area students and teachers through the News for Students program (formerly Newspapers in Education).
The subscription includes one year of free access to journalstar.com, our mobile app, our archive of stories and the Journal Star E-edition, which is a digital replica of the day’s printed newspaper.
Teachers must sign up for subscriptions by Aug. 31.
Teachers in Lincoln and the surrounding area can sign up their classes at go.journalstar.com/nfs. The subscriptions start Aug. 31 and run for about a year. Educators should sign up with their school email address, and the students will then be given accounts.
Reading local news can improve literacy, writing and critical-thinking skills. It will also help students learn more about their community and become more engaged citizens.
The Journal Star website and E-edition contain a variety of news, sports and information. There are also puzzles, video, cartoons, photo galleries and more. We’re confident that students and teachers will find content that inspires and challenges them. And combining current events with lessons from history could lead to some vibrant debates and lessons.
As teachers take on the challenge of educating a new group of students this fall, we’d be honored to play a small role.
