Andrea Peachey, executive director of GI Expo Events and Livestock, addresses the Grand Island Rotary Club on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at CHI Health St. Francis.
Grand Island hosted President Donald Trump's rally at the Pinnacle Bank Expo Center after roughly 10 days of preparation. Andrea Peachey, executive director of GI Expo Events and Livestock, said the venue was selected because it offered a flexible space and was available on the dates organizers needed.
A six-person team prepared the expo center while coordinating with White House staff, the U.S. Secret Service, Grand Island police, fire officials and private security. Peachey said the short timeline and need to keep preparations confidential made organizing the event challenging.
Organizers initially arranged 2,000 chairs but added another 3,000 in about 30 minutes to accommodate the crowd. Peachey said staff worked with fire officials to ensure attendance remained within the building's capacity of just under 6,000 people.
Peachey said the rally remained nonviolent and credited cooperation among local agencies and event partners. She said visiting organizers were impressed by the crowd's energy and turnout.
Speaking to the Grand Island Rotary Club on Tuesday, Peachey described hosting a sitting president as a rare opportunity for the community. “Regardless of your political view, having a sitting president come to your community and your campus was just something that we wanted to make happen, and I think we did it successfully,” she said.
