LINCOLN — Amid talk of the need for bold, transformative change within the University of Nebraska, former NU President Ted Carter tossed out a provocative one in his parting memo to the university’s controlling Board of Regents.
The Ralph Mueller Tower on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. University leaders are hoping to elevate the school to a more towering presence, especially in research.
Before he left, Ted Carter pushed hard to get the National Science Foundation to agree to allow UNL and UNMC to jointly report their research funding each year.
While NSF guidelines say schools should not jointly report figures for flagship and medical campuses that have their own separate leaders, Ted Carter pointed out that two of UNL’s Big Ten peers — Maryland and Rutgers — do just that.
