The best school district in every state

The best school district in every state

The best school district in every state

Between parental politics, after-school programs, and PTA meetings, navigating school districts can be hard—and choosing the district that is best for your child is even harder.

Stacker analyzed 2021 data from Niche to calculate the best school district in every state. Niche rankings rely on statistics from the U.S. Department of Education, SAT/ACT scores, college readiness, teacher quality, and graduation rates. Of course, ratings are one thing and experiences another—which is why it's always smart to do your research and learn about the families, teachers, and students in a given district before basing something as important as a move on a particular school.

Various districts prioritize funding for different programs, and some have more of a knack for hiring and retaining nurturing teachers. For some districts, it seems to be a numbers game without any thought regarding the learning environment. Still other districts encourage kids to explore passions and make friends but are lagging academically. A top school district isn’t just one or the other; it’s a combination of the two.

Keep reading to see how your district stacks up, or to help narrow your search for where you plan to move and raise a family.

The television actor Allison Mack, who pleaded guilty for her role in a sex-trafficking case tied to the cult-like group NXIVM, has been released from a California prison, according to a government website.

Mack, best known for her role as a young Superman’s close friend on “Smallville,” was sentenced to three years behind bars in 2021 after pleading guilty two years earlier to charges that she manipulated women into becoming sex slaves for NXIVM leader Keith Raniere.

100 best TV dramas of all time

The term “prestige television” is flung around a lot these days. Since the advent of the term sometime during the 2000s, arguably with the coming of shows in the late 1990s and early 2000s like “The West Wing” and “The Sopranos” and lingering on into the present, the phrase is often used to describe any “good drama show,” but can be applied to other high-quality genre shows as well, such as the comedy series “Veep.” Still, serious, dramatic shows like “The New Pope,” “Mad Men,” and “Six Feet Under” tend to be those that are more quickly afforded the designation of being “prestige,” and with so many options on a plethora of channels and streaming services, it can feel overwhelming to figure out where to start.

But there have been numerous Golden Ages of Television like this one since as early as the 1940s, and audiences are simply experiencing yet another variation of one of those periods. Thus, how many truly “prestige” designated shows can there be spanning years and even decades? Well, as it turns out, quite a few, and it would take multiple lifetimes to sift through them all and watch them in their entireties. But when it feels like channels and streaming services seem to be uploading drama shows at a rate that's impossible to keep up with, narrowing down only 100 past and present choices is not only a difficult task but a relieving one for those looking for some streamlined options.

Stacker compiled IMDb data to determine the 100 best drama series of all time as of May 26, 2020. To be considered, the series had to be listed as “drama” in IMDb's database and have over 10,000 IMDb user votes. Only TV series in English or with an English dub were considered. Miniseries and limited series were considered, but documentary series were not. Series are ranked by user rating, and ties were broken by votes. Counting down from 100, here are the best TV dramas of all time.

DALLAS — The combat boots and dog tags that Alan Alda wore to portray the wisecracking surgeon Hawkeye on the beloved television series "M-A-S-H" meant so much to him that when the show ended 40 years ago, he kept them.

But he's now ready to let the pieces go, in service of another passion: his center dedicated to helping scientists and doctors communicate better. Heritage Auctions is offering up the worn boots and military identification tags on July 28 in Dallas.

Gunman opens fire at random on Philadelphia streets, killing 5 before he is arrested, police say

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A heavily armed gunman in a bulletproof vest opened fire on the streets of Philadelphia on Monday night, seemingly at a random, killing five people and wounding two boys before surrendering, police said.

The shootings took place over several city blocks in the southwestern neighborhood of Kingsessing. Responding officers chased the suspect as he continued to fire, and he was arrested in an alley after giving himself up, Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said at a news conference.

Video shows Britney Spears inadvertently hit herself in the face in encounter with Victor Wembanyama

LAS VEGAS (AP) — No charges will be filed following a brief investigation of the altercation involving pop star Britney Spears, San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama and a member of the player's security team, Las Vegas police said Friday.

Spears said she was struck by a security guard as she tried to approach Wembanyama near a restaurant in a Las Vegas casino complex on Wednesday night. Wembanyama said a person — he later was told it was Spears — grabbed him from behind.

Britney Spears says Wembanyama’s security struck her in Las Vegas, Spurs rookie says he was grabbed

LAS VEGAS — San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama said Thursday he believes Britney Spears grabbed him from behind as he was walking into a restaurant at a Las Vegas casino, and that the security detail he was with pushed the pop star away.

Wembanyama said he wasn't told that Spears was the person who grabbed him until hours later, and that he never actually saw her.

Texas gunman in Walmart shooting gets 90 consecutive life sentences but may still face death penalty

EL PASO, Texas — A white gunman who killed 23 people in a racist attack on Hispanic shoppers at a Walmart in a Texas border city was sentenced Friday to 90 consecutive life sentences but could still face more punishment, including the death penalty.

Patrick Crusius, 24, pleaded guilty earlier this year to nearly 50 federal hate crime charges in the 2019 mass shooting in El Paso, making it one of the U.S. government's largest hate crime cases.
