State Treasurer John Murante is running for a second four-year term. He faces Paul Anderson in the Republican primary. Both are from Omaha. The winner faces Katrina Tomsen of Omaha, a Libertarian, in the general election.

The state treasurer receives and disburses most of the state's money and informs the Legislature through a yearly report on the state's financial picture.
