1. Phat Jack's BBQ
1. Phat Jack’s BBQ, 101 S.W. 14th -- The burnt ends are my favorite menu item, but you can’t go wrong with the combination plate, which allows you to mix and match meats.
The locally owned restaurant is one of those feel-good success stories. Matt and Jackie Burt are two Lincolnites who, after getting married and moving to Olathe, Kansas, took up competitive BBQ in 2004. They returned to Lincoln, and, with the help of their family, opened Phat Jack’s at 40th and Cornhusker Highway.
Their success was immediate. It’s here you can find some of the tastiest ribs, pulled pork and brisket.
3. Parker's Smokehouse
3. Parker’s Smokehouse, 8341 O St. -- Servers give tutorials about the many sauces. A nice touch to go along with fine, smoked meat choices.
4. Hickory Road BBQ
4. Hickory Road BBQ & Catering Co., 5571 S. 48th St. -- Another newcomer to the Lincoln market, the restaurant has the best BBQ sandwiches in Lincoln, including my favorite, the Cowboy Melt -- a grilled cheese with brisket.
