WOW! It seems like school has just started and we are already nine weeks into the first quarter. Everything is in full swing and our students and staff have been very busy in the classroom and with activities. I have been extremely pleased with our students and how they have come into the year ready to learn and how responsible they have been when it comes to showing up to class prepared and getting work completed. Also, the respect they have shown toward fellow students, staff members and the respect they have shown toward other schools while attending events has been outstanding. Again this year during our student assembly on the first day of school, we talked about the three things that students needed to do in order to have a fun and successful school year. Those three things are be respectful, be responsible and be safe. Because our students have chosen to follow these guidelines, we have had a great start to the 2026-2027 school year.
As we move through the month of October our students are finishing up with many activities and are looking forward to starting new ones. Junior high football and volleyball will be completing their seasons soon, softball finished district play October 5, football will play their final regular-season game on October 22 and volleyball will start sub-district play on October 26. Congratulations to Southern’s 2026 Homecoming King Paxx Adams and Queen Caroline Heard.
A reminder that communication between the family and the teachers is a huge component in a student’s success. If you have not downloaded the Apptegy app, please do so as this is how our staff is communicating with parents. You may also check PowerSchool regularly to see your child’s progress throughout the year. I encourage you to come out and support our extracurricular activities. Southern students and coaches and sponsors put in a lot of time and they appreciate your support.
Please check out our school website, Facebook page and X account as Mrs. Fralin and her students work hard to keep these updated so everyone can follow what great things are happening at Southern.
Mr. Murphy
