Colleagues,
Over the past year, faculty and staff have made incredible progress toward achieving compliance with accessibility standards under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This work has made our campus and how we teach, work, and learn more accessible to our students and the community we serve. For that, we cannot thank you enough.
The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Monday a one-year extension for compliance with Title II digital accessibility standards. The new deadline is April 26, 2027. No other aspects of the rule have changed.
This extension does not change our expectations or our commitment to achieving compliance with digital accessibility requirements.
While we have made progress we can be proud of, important work remains. This additional time is an opportunity to strengthen and complete the work already underway, not postpone it.
We ask all faculty and staff to continue prioritizing accessibility in your digital content, courses, and workflows.
Over the coming months and into the 2026–2027 academic year, you will receive regular updates with tools, trainings, resources, and examples to support your progress through UNO’s Digital Accessibility website.
Thank you for your continued commitment to this critical work and to creating an accessible UNO for all.
