Lincoln, Neb., July 14, 2026 — Gage County has been awarded a $22.7 million Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The funds will support improvements on Clatonia-DeWitt Road and Hickory Road, including three bridge replacements and about eight miles of pavement reconstruction. The total project cost is estimated at $29.6 million.
This grant marks a milestone for the Nebraska Department of Transportation’s Infrastructure Hub (IHub), as Gage County’s project is among the first to complete the full IHub process from application to successful federal award. The IHub will continue to assist the county with grant administration.
"The Nebraska Infrastructure Hub was created to help communities across our state compete confidently for federal funding opportunities that make a meaningful difference," said NDOT Director Vicki Kramer. "This grant award represents the value of connecting local leaders with grant experts to make crucial investments in Nebraska’s transportation system."
Nebraska’s congressional delegation supported the grant application. Senator Deb Fischer secured $4.7 million for the project in the fiscal year 2026 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill. Fischer said the project will enhance traveler safety and aid the local agricultural industry in moving products.
Since 2022, Nebraska has received more than $90 million in BUILD and RAISE funding under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The IHub, launched in August 2024, has reviewed 150 projects, supported 85 entities, approved 95 projects for assistance, submitted 65 grant applications, and provided 472 hours of direct assistance to date.
