Sen. Mark Kolterman of Seward, who will complete his two terms as a state senator at the end of the year, sees more partisanship creeping into Nebraska's nonpartisan Legislature. 

Grappling with nation-leading prison growth, Nebraska officials are looking at ways to expand the state's problem-solving courts as a potential solution.

"It’s going to be pretty devastating as far as institutional knowledge walking out the door," said one state lawmaker.

During a marathon hearing on Wednesday, the Legislature’s Government, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee heard testimony for and against a proposal that would enact a voter ID law.
