RAYMOND – A local company is out $70,000 after a fire consumed and destroyed a company-owned truck.
Ronald Thompson, owner of Ron’s Rolloffs in Raymond, was hauling a forklift westbound on Waverly Road from Highway 77 using a Peterbilt truck when he and a passenger smelled smoke, according to a Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office incident report. Thompson pulled over and observed fire coming from under the truck’s cab. He attempted to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher, but was unsuccessful.
Thompson called for Raymond Fire Department and released the trailer in order to save the forklift. Raymond Fire volunteers arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire, though the damage had already been done.
The cause of the fire was likely a mechanical failure, according to the report.
