Wahoo Newspaper

The Wahoo Newspaper has been reporting the news in the Saunders County area since 1886. Our coverage area includes all of Saunders County, western Butler County and extreme northern Lancaster County. It is owned by Lee Enterprises.

Saunders County is conveniently located between growing metro areas - Lincoln to the south, Omaha to the east and Fremont to the north.

The communities in the Saunders County area continue to grow in population, agricultural strength, economic diversity and community pride. About 21,000 people call Saunders County home. There are three cities: Wahoo, Ashland and Yutan; 11 villages: Ceresco, Valparaiso, Ithaca, Mead, Memphis, Weston, Malmo, Prague, Morse Bluff, Cedar Bluffs and Leshara; three unincorporated communities: Swedeburg, Touhy and Woodcliff; and several rural housing developments.

Wahoo has a population of just more than 4,000 and is the county seat. This community has two school systems, public and parochial. The community boasts a countywide hospital, law enforcement center, several parks, aquatics center, library and an indoor pool and recreation facility.

Wahoo also is home to "Five Famous Sons" -- Nobel Prize winner George Beadle, artist C.W. Anderson, music composer Howard Hanson, Major League baseball player Sam Crawford and movie producer/Oscar winner Darryl Zanuck.
