Brenda K. Reed

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. –Brenda K. Reed passed away peacefully on July 19, 2020.

Brenda was born on Dec. 12, 1936 in Wahoo, to Twila and Gordon Rockwell. Brenda attended Wahoo High School and during this time she met her first husband, Murvin Barry. Together they raised their three beautiful children: Scott, Susan and Julie.

Brenda balanced motherhood while pursuing her passion for residential real estate. In 1972, the family relocated to sunny San Diego. As Brenda fulfilled her big city dreams, she never lost her small town roots. Brenda’s success expanded beyond her career – to know her was to love her. Her smile was contagious, her intelligence was admired, and her love was unconditional. In 1981, Brenda married David John Reed Jr. and a remarkable family was blended. They proudly honored the marriages of their children and welcomed 10 wonderful grandchildren who looked up to them as their “Nainie” and “Taidie.”

They incorporated their lives with family and never missed a beat. From celebrations at the Bel Air Bay Club, to relaxing at Big Bear Lake, to jet-setting across the globe, Brenda and David lived their lives to the fullest throughout their 33 years of marriage. Their highlight was living in Indian Wells, Calif. for their later years where Brenda valued her involvement in local committees and activities: Architecture and Landscape, Planning Commission, Betty Ford Center, Literary Society of the Desert, and many more. Additionally, you could spot Brenda attending the annual Palm Springs International Film Festival, performances at the McCallum Theatre, Rancho Mirage Writers Festival and various Speaker Series. Additionally, Brenda was an avid sports fan. You could often hear her rooting for the Nebraska Cornhuskers (GO BIG RED!), USC Trojans, as well as cheering for her grandchildren’s athletic teams or supporting her favorite players on the tennis courts. Brenda’s friendships were unmatched. Her vivacious spirit, infectious energy and warm heart impacted all who knew her. The memories of Brenda are instilled within all of us as she was loved by all who knew her.

Brenda is survived by her brother Dr. Richard Rockwell (Mo); daughter Julie Nailling (Bill); son-in-law Mark McCready; stepson David John Reed III (Susan); stepdaughter Stephanie Houge (Greg); grandchildren, Katie, Christy and Jenny Nailling, Matt and Chris McCready, Becca, Henry and Spencer Reed, Kyle and Grayson Houge.
